THE RIGHT HELPER

Genesis 2:18 (NKJV)

‘And the Lord God said, “It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.” ‘

Being alone is not good for Man. We are social beings and we need people around us. Being alone and being lonely are not the same. Being alone is needful to reflect and to ponder the issues of life. Being lonely means that even after the moments of reflection are over and we desire companionship, we do not have the right types of companions. Being lonely means we desire friends and close associates but live in the agony of not having. Loneliness is a scourge to our society and many enter into wrong ‘social circles’ out of the frustration of loneliness. Pubs, clubs, drugs, pornographic sites, excessive and addictive eating are a few results of our lonesome existence.

Many also don’t enter their full potential because they don’t have the right type of help. We all need help but there is a help that is from God and a help that is from Man. The help from God is ‘free and suitable’, comparable and adequate. On the other hand, the help from Man is tied with strings and lead to depletion at the end of the day. Let’s seek the help that comes from Above because such help always brings addition and benefit to our lives; it serves as a blessing from God that ‘makes rich and adds no sorrow’.

Make time to be alone for reflection and meditation, but don’t stop there, seek and keep companionships that are healthy and edifying.

‘Thank you, Lord, for you have not created me as a lonely being but a social being. Lead me into the social networks that will add value to my life and build me up in the right ways. And may you provide me with the suitable helper needful for my every challenge and experience. Amen.’
