THE DILEMMA

Genesis 4:16 (NKJV)

‘Then Cain went out from the presence of the Lord and dwelt in the land of Nod on the east of Eden.’

It is very unfortunate but certain things do take us away from the presence of the Lord. This does not mean that God’s presence is not everywhere, but it means that we no longer dwell in the active presence of God. Where do you currently dwell? Cain went to dwell in the land of Nod. Have you journeyed away from God’s active presence?

My meditation this morning is simple: may I never yield to the pressures or pleasures to dwell anywhere outside the presence of God. The land of Nod may seem justifiable or explainable but it is still away from the presence of God. Be vigilant about what could take you away from God’s presence. Anywhere away from the presence of God is barrenness, fruitlessness, and emptiness. This, in my opinion, is the worst dilemma that there can be.

‘Lord, the land of Nod is very inviting but teach me every day to count the cost of moving away from your presence. Always remind me of the consequences of barrenness and emptiness, which await me out there. Expose the pleasures of Nod for what it is, which is a mirage with no lasting satisfaction. Deliver me from the sin that will so quickly banish me to Nod. This I plead in Jesus name. Amen.
