Genesis 4:19-22 (NKJV)
‘Then Lamech took for himself two wives: the name of one was Adah, and the name of the second was Zillah. And Adah bore Jabal. He was the father of those who dwell in tents and have livestock. His brother’s name was Jubal. He was the father of all those who play the harp and flute. And as for Zillah, she also bore Tubal-Cain, an instructor of every craftsman in bronze and iron…’
We are made to make history. It’s God’s purpose for us to try something new, something different. It’s in our DNA to seek to create, to pioneer, and to try a new adventure. Out of fear, many people do not actually step out to expand their creative abilities. However, those with the boldness to so do, they eventually become leaders of others; leaders of those who had longed to try the adventurous but were too fearful or unwilling to give it a shot.
The real issue is not, therefore, the desire to create or make history but what type of creation and history do we make? Here we see Lamech taking two wives, an act that had never happened before. He made history, but what type of innovation did he introduce to humanity? Was it worthwhile and God honoring? We also see Jabal, Jubal and Tubal-Cain make history and each become leaders in their areas of specialty. They made history with their innovations, much better innovations than their father did. So yes, it’s good to step out and make history through leading people in trying new paths but may it be recorded that your motivation, your intention, your leadership and your creation were godly and God-honoring.
‘Lord, help me never die as an ordinary man who never made any difference in his generation. But more importantly, Lord, may the difference I make be such that honor you and bring positive blessings to Mankind. May I never seek novelty for the sake of it but may I seek to make history, to honor you. Amen.’
