USE HIS NAME

Genesis 4:26 (NKJV)

‘…Then men began to call on the name of the Lord.’

This is an interesting introduction. Was this really when men began calling on the name of the Lord? If that is so, then all this while, what had they been doing and whose name had they been calling? How were they living their lives without calling on the name of the Lord? What could their lives have looked like without calling on the name of the Lord?

May we never graduate to a point of not calling on the name of the Lord. The name of the Lord is a strong tower. The name of the Lord is a sure defense. The name of the Lord is the greatest weapon we have to fight the forces of darkness. The name of the Lord is our comfort and comforter. The name of the Lord is our hope in this life and in eternity. How can I survive without the name of the Lord?

Having the name of the Lord is not the same as calling on the name of the Lord. Some may think, ‘O! I don’t need to call on the name of the Lord because the Lord is with you’. But, this reasoning is wrong. You can own millions and still die of hunger if you don’t use it. We’ve been invited to call on His name and to use His name. So why are we so silent? Why do we so quickly turn to the names of men for help when His name is ever present to help us?

‘Lord, your name is my surest security in this life and the next. I don’t want to live a day without calling on your name. Your name brings light and life. Without your name, there is no hope or confidence to live. By faith, I live under that name and in that name, the name of Jesus. By faith, nothing shall overwhelm or overtake me, once I have your name. Thank you, Jesus, for this great name that I can use, every day. Amen.
