Genesis 5:23-24 (NKJV)
‘So all the days of Enoch were three hundred and sixty-five years. And Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him.’
Here was a man who did not die as others did, but was taken away. Why? This was because he walked with God. He was remembered and marked for walking with God. While others lived very long and had nothing written about them, here was a man who did not live long at all (at least by the standards of his generation) and yet he lived a quality of life that heaven needed to register it, as an example for posterity sake.
What is heaven registering about me? Is heaven impressed by my length of days on earth, or are they registering something significant about the content of my days? We don’t know much about Enoch but the simple fact that he walked with God; meaning he lived a good, fulfilled and meaningful life. Walking with God means walking in the steps of God, being at every point in the exact place, and doing the exact things God intends for you to do. Walking with God means enjoying and living in the daily presence of the Most High, basking in His glory and enjoying His companionship. What better living can there be?
So like Enoch, let’s measure the quality of our lives and of our faith, by the content of our days; by how in step we are with God and not by how long we live. Many people live long but wasted lives, yet some live shorter but more impactful lives. It’s all in the content of the life. Which would we rather have?
‘Lord, I don’t care about how long I live, so long as I walk with you. Deliver me from the distractions of earthly living and keep my eyes centered on you, so I walk as you walk. This is my heart cry today, in Jesus name. Amen.’
