THE FAMILY COVENANT

April 2, 2017

Genesis 6:18 (NKJV)

‘But I will establish My covenant with you; and you shall go into the ark—you, your sons, your wife, and your sons’ wives with you.’

It’s interesting that the Bible did not mention anything specific that Noah’s family did to partake in the covenant, and yet they were included, and not just Noah’s wife and his sons but his sons’ wives also. This is remarkable. Two possible explanations can be given. Either Noah was such a great discipler and influence over his family that they were all like him: ‘just, perfect, walking with God’ or God basically overlooked their individuality and brought them under the covenant by reason of Noah’s life. This cannot be scripturally proven but I tend to favor the first narrative.

God has given us our primary and priority area of influence and that’s our nuclear family. Noah’s parents were not included in this salvation plan, neither his wife’s parents nor his in-laws. Maybe he preached to them and they did not believe; we don’t know. But one thing is certain, Noah’s nuclear family made it, thanks to Noah.

What are we doing to ensure our nuclear family enters God’s Ark? What are you doing to ensure that the covenant of promise given to you is passed on to the next generation? No matter how great your ministry is outside, you cannot glory in that without ensuring that your closest family members are saved and secure with you, inside God’s ark. Otherwise, your joy will be short-lived when you hear their drowning cried amidst the great waters yonder.

‘O Lord, I refuse to be saved alone. In this wicked generation, I insist that the aroma and impact of your salvation agenda must cover my entire nuclear family and my extended family, in Jesus name. I covenant my life to your faithfulness that my family will encounter and fully experience the grace of God that redeems. Save them all Lord; save them all, in Jesus name. Amen.
