Genesis 8:21 (NKJV)
‘And the Lord smelled a soothing aroma. Then the Lord said in His heart, “I will never again curse the ground for man’s sake, although the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth; nor will I again destroy every living thing as I have done.’
The sacrifice on the altar releases an aroma before God and the type of sacrifice on the altar determines the type of aroma that rises. A distracted half-hearted sacrifice given with an attitude of compulsion will not produce the sweet aroma that attracts God. God requires a soothing aroma, as though His heart were so wounded by the affairs of Sinful Man, that He could only find healing by the soothing aroma from the sacrifice of Righteous Man.
The result of Noah’s correct sacrifice was the release of a great blessing upon mankind, a multi-generational blessing that has continued even to this day. The soothing aroma caused God to make a profound declaration for humanity. The question for us to ask is: Do our sacrifices produce a soothing aroma to God? Does our sacrifice provoke God to bless our posterity and us? What’s the quality of the sacrifice we are currently bringing?
‘I see that your blessings are natural responses to the right aroma, and I am determined Lord to bring you the right aromas that will provoke your special blessings on me. Free my heart to soar in worship to my King and that your heart O Lord will be soothed by the sacrifices I bring to your altar. Amen.
