Genesis 13:10-11 (NKJV)
‘And Lot lifted his eyes and saw all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered everywhere (before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah)…Then Lot chose for himself all the plain of Jordan…’
What you see when you lift up your eyes depends on what is in your heart. If the heart is connected to God’s heart, then our eyes will see with God’s eyes. But if our heart is laced with the desires of this world, then our eyes will only see with the craving of covetousness and materialism. For Lot, he lifted up his eyes and did not see the godlessness of the plains of Jordan neither did he discern that God was going to destroy all that land. He only saw what his covetous heart desired to see: more opportunity, more expansion, more wealth.
May God prune our hearts and not our eyes. May we have hearts that are circumcised from the desires of human riches. May our dreams be aligned with heaven’s agenda. Only then can we be sure that our eyes will see right.
‘Circumcize my heart again Lord. Circumcise my heart. Let my heart only feel and sense and be attracted to what moves Yours. Destruction awaits me if I follow a self-centered heart, so please help me quickly Lord, in Jesus name. Amen.’
