Genesis 13:18 (NKJV)
‘Then Abram moved his tent, and went and dwelt by the terebinth trees of Mamre, which are in Hebron, and built an altar there to the Lord.’
I admire how Abram kept building an altar to God even as he moved from place to place. This practice of Abram revealed the heart of Abram; the heart of a man devoted and loyal to God. He would always ensure there was worship lifted up at every location he went to. And in addition to worship, the altar was a place of thanksgiving to the God who was leading him on his journey.
Do I stop to build my altars even as I move my tents? Once I journey out of the place of my current altar, the first thing I must do in my new location is to decide where to build my altar of remembrance, my altar of worship, my altar of thanksgiving, my altar of devotion. Don’t settle into a new place without first deciding on the location of your altar.
‘This is my commitment to You Lord. Everywhere I go Lord, I will build my altar of worship and praise to You, for all You have done and are doing for me. May I be diligent to always so do, in Jesus name. Amen.’
