REST & APPROACHING

May 12, 2017

Genesis 15:12 (NKJV)

‘Now when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram; and behold, horror and great darkness fell upon him.’

Remember it was Abram who was asking for more. He had been talking with God and needed additional assurance. And God initiated him into this experience. But to see God, Abram needed to sleep. To experience the deeper encounter with God, Abram needed to be dead to his personal consciousness and desires.

There’s a place I cannot enter with God once it is still  me planning and designing it all. There is a point where I must sleep before I experience the horrors of the deeper encounter with God. If I insist on planning and executing my life, the deeper life will elude me. I must fall asleep and be immobile and completely at rest and then, wait for His encounter.

Rest is a prerequisite for encountering God.

‘Take me Lord into the sleep of faith; into that deep place of rest where I know that I am safe in the hands of God. And in this deep crevice of rest, O Lord, show me Your Majesty and Splendor like I’ve never experienced before. This I crave for, in Jesus name. Amen.’
