Genesis 17:26-27 (NKJV)
‘That very same day Abraham was circumcised, and his son Ishmael; and all the men of his house, born in the house or bought with money from a foreigner, were circumcised with him.’
Though Abraham doubted at first, once he believed, he moved swiftly into action. He himself was circumcised and every male in his household likewise. It must have been very painful but he acted once he understood and believed.
We must not be sluggish with obedience. God expects immediate action once we have understood His expectations for our lives. Delayed obedience is disobedience. Even if obedience is painful, may we be swift to obey once we have understood this as God’s will.
‘Deliver me from the syndrome of delayed obedience. May I walk in the steps of my father Abraham who obeyed once he believed. May I never obey at my convenience. Despite the pain, O Lord, may I obey you. In Jesus I pray. Amen.’
