DON’T LOOK BACK

June 5, 2017

Genesis 19:26 (NKJV)

‘But his wife looked back behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.’

This is the saddest part of this Sodom and Gomorrah story. After lingering, after Abraham’s intercession, after the appeal to run into a nearby city for safety, after seeing all that they saw, after hearing all those clear instructions; why did she again look back? What was it in Sodom she so longed for that she could not release? What was it? Was it worth it?

As God brings us out of the darkness of Sodom, may our hearts never look back. There’s so much ahead of us, and we must not look back. Looking back ends the journey ahead. Looking back breaks the covenant of protection and blessing. Looking back makes a mockery of God’s deliverance for you. Looking back must not be an option.

‘I will not look back Lord. Whatever past pleasures or attractions remain in my past, I leave them all behind. I will not look back Lord. The appealing lights of Sodom shall never succeed to beckon me away from the glory that lies ahead. I have chosen to follow You Lord. I will not linger or look back, so help me God, for Jesus sake. Amen.’
