Genesis 20:7 (NKJV)
‘Now therefore, restore the man’s wife; for he is a prophet, and he will pray for you and you shall live. But if you do not restore her, know that you shall surely die, you and all who are yours.’
‘Thank you, Lord, for defending me, even when it was my fault that I fell. It’s amazing the love You have for me. It’s amazing that You so care for me that You will speak to the heathen to lay off my case; warning them to the impending wrath of God if they don’t stay away.’
Abraham and Sarah had lied to Abimelech that they were simply siblings and for that reason Abimelech took Sarah, only to discover from God that she was Abraham’s wife. Truth be told, Abimelech had not sinned because Abraham and Sarah had deceived him. God, however, defended them and warned Abimelech to stay away. In fact, God closed the womb of the house of Abimelech because of this event and this was only reversed when Abraham got his wife back and prayed for him. Amazing. Despite Abraham and Sarah being the ones who deceived Abimelech, God was so committed to His people that He punished the house of Abimelech without Abraham even getting involved.
‘This may sound selfish and unbiblical but Lord, even when I fail you, please continue protecting and defending me, in Jesus name. Let your covenant speak for me, even when I have acted in foolishness. Amen.’
