Genesis 21:26 (NKJV)
“And Abimelech said, ‘I do not know who has done this thing; you did not tell me, nor had I heard of it until today.’”
Abraham rebuked Abimelech because of a well of water which Abimelech’s folks had seized from him, but Abimelech had no idea that that had happened. Things were happening around him which he had no clue about until Abraham spoke up.
Speak up and don’t die in silence. Don’t assume somebody knows what ails you. Abimelech said, “you did not tell me,” yet Abraham had already started rebuking him. Before rebuking someone, be sure the person is aware of what the issue is. Don’t bottle things inside. Speak up.
“In all meekness and sincerity of heart, Lord, help me to share what my hurts and discomforts are, particularly with someone who may have hurt me inadvertently. Teach me the patience to understand and the boldness to share my heart in love, before proceeding to rebuke someone. Amen.”
