Genesis 24:33 (NKJV)
“Food was set before him to eat, but he said, ‘I will not eat until I have told about my errand.’ And he said, ‘Speak on.’ “
Focus on your task before pleasure. Many times, we fail to focus strictly on the task before us because of the distractions of temporary comfort. This attitude, however, will stall our ability to press on to reach our goals.
Abraham’s servant must have been hungry after such a long trip, but he needed to caution himself and control his appetite. He remembered why he had come and he, therefore, needed to focus on that before satisfying his human desires.
May we develop the discipline of concentration before consummation. May we grow to be single eyed on our calling before the pursuit of personal satisfaction. Those who have excelled in life never put personal happiness above what they considered their calling. It was always the calling first and the pursuit of it, which would eventually dovetail into providing personal satisfaction and pleasure.
