Genesis 24:34,49 (NKJV)
“So he said, ‘I am Abraham’s servant…Now if you will deal kindly and truly with my master, tell me. And if not, tell me, that I may turn to the right hand or to the left.’ “
Your human identity does not affect your strategic relevance. You may be a prince or a servant, but what counts is not what men say you are but what strategic function you play. Seeing yourself in the light of your contribution to God’s overall plan is critical to personal fulfillment. This servant was not concerned that he was a servant but rather saw the importance of the duty he was sent to execute. He knew that Abraham’s satisfaction, the unadulterated continuation of Abraham’s lineage, depended on the success of his mission. He knew he was a strategic player in the plan of God and the fulfillment of the covenant of God. To him, he was a very important man; not because of his status but because of the role he played.
May we not focus on status. May we focus on the significance of our roles in the unfolding of God’s plans. Your importance is not tied to human definitions and positions; your importance is linked to God’s task handed over to you as a steward. If we take our task seriously, then heaven will applaud and recognize us. If we don’t, then we are irrelevant irrespective of what men call us.
“Father, may I never pursue the status and empty propping of human positions. Lord, may my relevance only be in my faithfulness as Your steward. Help me to remember that that is what matters at the end of the day. Amen.”
