EGYPTIAN SEDUCTION

Genesis 26:1-2 (NKJV)

“There was a famine in the land, besides the first famine that was in the days of Abraham…Then the Lord appeared to him and said: ‘Do not go down to Egypt; live in the land of which I shall tell you.’”

Famine is a cyclical event that comes and goes with seasons of life. There will be famine. That is an inevitable fact. The real issue is: “what do we do in times of famine?” When we are drained, dried and demoralized, that’s when we must be careful about distractions.

Egypt is a distraction. Egypt offers a sense of relief from the famine, but it’s a relief that’s deadly and dangerous. It defiles and deforms. Besides the first famine, there was another famine in the land; but the Lord was very emphatic about not going down to Egypt. Despite the feelings of unease and discomfort, may we remain in the place God has placed us. May we hold on to the principles God has taught us and may we reject the soothing enticements of Egypt.

“O Lord, I feel stranded many times. I felt so dry and empty and demoralized that I desperately need some quick comfort. O God, keep my heart from Egypt. Help me endure the days of famine until You visit me again. In Jesus’ name, I plead. Amen.”
