THE DISCERNING WOMAN

July 22, 2017

Genesis 27:5-6 (NKJV)

“Now Rebekah was listening when Isaac spoke to Esau his son…So Rebekah spoke to Jacob her son, saying, ‘Indeed I heard your father speak to Esau your brother…’”

Obviously, Rebekah was a schemer and Jacob must have learned quite a few of his scheming tricks from her. She apparently loved Jacob more; she knew that Esau had sold his birthright as firstborn to Jacob and she was aware that the covenant of God with Abraham could not pass through Esau and his half Hittite children. So she swung into action after overhearing her husband’s plans to bless Esau before Jacob.

Women, be sensitive on how you relate to your children. You are molding them, and they are being formed after your image and likeness. Because women often (not always) spend more quality time with the children, their influence and knowledge of family issues and dynamics sometimes outweigh that of their husbands. In many ways, the destiny of your children is in your hands. Be sensitive how you weave their lives, ensuring your influence is leading them into God’s destiny for their lives.

Though it was by scheming, Rebekah’s discernment was part of executing God’s will for Jacob.

“May our women invest significantly in their children, weaving and releasing God’s deliberate plan for the children. In Jesus’ name. Amen.”
