CONSULT MORE!

Genesis 28:8-9 (NKJV)

“Also Esau saw that the daughters of Canaan did not please his father Isaac. So Esau went to Ishmael and took Mahalath the daughter of Ishmael, Abraham’s son, the sister of Nebajoth, to be his wife in addition to the wives he had.”

Esau was such an independent thinker, and he was not open to counsel neither did he seek it. If indeed he understood that his father was unhappy about the Canaanite wives he took, why go ahead and choose another one without consulting with his father? He had seen Isaac bless Jacob and send him to Laban’s household to find a wife; so why would Esau not ask for guidance if he needed to choose a woman that could please his father?

High headedness is the reason. Some people believe they know it all and do not consult. They wait on nobody and make decisions all by themselves. But like Esau, they will end up making wrong decisions and turning bad situations into irreparable conditions. In the multitude of good counsel, there is safety. Don’t always run ahead with your ideas and decisions, without checking with some elders and fathers or even colleagues.

Get input from those who may know more or have more experience. It’s always beneficial.

“Lord, may my heart be humble enough to always seek counsel from wise and older friends and brethren. I don’t know it all, and I need to always remind myself of this. Help me, Lord. In Jesus’ name. Amen.”
