NEGOTIATING BLESSINGS?

Genesis 28:20-22 (NKJV)

“Then Jacob made a vow, saying, ‘If God will be with me, and keep me in this way that I am going, and give me bread to eat and clothing to put on, so that I come back to my father’s house in peace, then the Lord shall be my God…and of all that You give me I will surely give a tenth to You.’”

Bargaining with God is not necessary for those God has ordained to bless. God even swore to Abraham that the promises were for him and his descendants. Can there be a greater force to compel God to bless us than the promises made by God Himself and sworn over by God?

We must grow past the false understanding that we must negotiate with God for God to fulfill His promises to us. If we stick to the terms of the contract of faith and do not depart from the path of the covenant, then we are secure in Him. Our safety and security are not in ourselves but His promise. We don’t need to promise God a tithe to entice Him to bless us. This is a misunderstanding of God’s faithfulness and commitment to us.

We are children of promise and covenant. Stick with the terms of the covenant and God’s favor, protection and blessings will overshadow you.

“I believe Lord. I believe. I don’t need to negotiate a blessing from You. I am a child of promise and a child of the covenant. My blessings in Christ are intact. Lord, help me stay within the safety of Your covenant, in Jesus’ name. Amen.”
