Genesis 31:29 (NKJV)
“It is in my power to do you harm, but the God of your father spoke to me last night, saying, ‘Be careful that you speak to Jacob neither good nor bad.”’
“Jehovah my Rock, my faithful Father & Friend, the Everlasting Defender, and Rescuer – I worship You. Even when I deserved harm, You did not release me to harm. Even when I had no basis for self-defense and my righteousness could not uphold me, yet You stood for me. I worship You Almighty God.”
If not that God had spoken directly to Laban not to harm Jacob, Jacob may have suffered a significant loss on this day. But God visited Laban at night and talked to him about Jacob – this same Jacob who was crooked; this same Jacob whose wife had stolen Laban’s household gods. Why would God not cause harm to touch Jacob knowing that Jacob & Rachel had actually stolen from Laban? The only answer is The Covenant.
“Thank You, Lord, for engrafting me into the Covenant with Abraham, and I am now enjoying the excellent benefits of this Covenant, which is not by works of righteousness but by faith in the Convener of the Covenant, Jesus Christ the Righteous. Amen and hallelujah.”
