FAMILY TRANSPARENCY

August 23, 2017

Genesis 31:32 (NKJV)

“‘With whomever you find your gods, do not let him live…” For Jacob did not know that Rachel had stolen them.”

Transparency at home is essential. It cannot be overemphasized that spouses need to be speaking openly and in details with each other; and the same should be happening between children and their parents and vice versa. Total family transparency is crucial to family health and growth. It is sad when one party hoards information from the other, and this info could be decisive in the decision making that affects the entire family.

Jacob had no idea that Rachel had stolen her father’s household goods; had he known, he would not have made the harsh statements that he did. If not for Rachel’s craftiness in escaping the search, Jacob would have lost his most beloved wife, because she had not told him what she had done. And this is seven days after having done it.

Family transparency is key to family survival. No secrets should be allowed at home.

“Thank You, Father, for giving me children that are open. Thank You for giving me a spouse that hides nothing whatsoever from me. Oh Lord, please keep us totally transparent before each other, even as we journey together into whatever lies ahead of us. This I ask in Jesus’ name. Amen.”
