Genesis 31:39 (NKJV)
“That which was torn by beasts I did not bring to you; I bore the loss of it. You required it from my hand, whether stolen by day or stolen by night.”
Don’t be an Egyptian taskmaster with your workers. Be considerate and understanding, and they will serve you more. Laban was too tough with Jacob despite the fact that his prosperity was directly linked to Jacob. If there was any accidental loss of any of the flock, Jacob was required to reimburse. This was too hard.
Be considerate. This does not mean to be careless and casual with them. Every staff must be a good steward of the resources committed to him, but we must go beyond the surface to recognize when unexpected losses occur, and we must be generous enough not to always hold the workers responsible to payback for the loss.
We will receive greater loyalty if we are generous and magnanimous.
“Father, I know I can be very tough with those who work with me, setting strict guidelines and expecting stringent compliance to agreed protocols. However, I am seeing that I need more flexibility and more kindheartedness with those who work with me, as this will lead to greater productivity and better bonding with them. Help me change in this direction Lord. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.”
