Genesis 32:4-5 (NKJV)
“And he commanded them, saying, ‘Speak thus to my lord Esau, “Thus your servant Jacob says: ‘…I have oxen, donkeys, flocks, and male and female servants; and I have sent to tell my lord, that I may find favor in your sight.’”‘”
Jacob, the perfect schemer, did everything to appease his brother before he would meet him face to face. All kinds of strategies were used starting with this one where he called him “lord,” called himself “servant,” gave a breakdown of his material prosperity- all in an attempt to influence Esau before they met. Later on, Jacob sent gifts ahead also. But the response he got from his advance team to Esau was, “he is coming to meet you with four hundred men also.” And Jacob panicked.
Let God sort you out. When God has dealt with you, He can deal with those who hate you or are offended by you. Don’t always try to work things out in your human wisdom. It doesn’t work. But when God has done His job, then you can be sure that change will happen, and your safety is assured.
“I know You can and will do it for me, Lord. I have relationships that just have not seemed to work, despite all my schemes and efforts. I now hand them over to You. Grant me the patience to wait for You to do only what You can do. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.”
