INTOXICATING LOVE

September 9, 2017

Genesis 34:19 (NKJV).

‘So the young man did not delay to do the thing, because he delighted in Jacob’s daughter. He was more honorable than all the household of his father.’

If Shechem was more honorable than all the household of his father (& he was a rapist), then one wonders how the other members of the household were. Because he was blinded by love for Dinah, he was willing to do anything to have her as a wife, including being circumcised at this mature age. Love had intoxicated him & he had lost all forms of discernment. He accepted to be circumcised for the sake of love, not knowing that this was a step towards his destruction.

Intoxicating love destroys. Love that kills your discernment will lead you to foolish actions. Love that makes you do what is irrational is not divine love. We must have control of the fires of love that could consume us and our household.

Beware. Love that so intoxicates and overpowers reason may be praised in the world as a great love, but it is, in reality, a dangerous love. Such love for the opposite sex is foolishness in the scales of heaven’s assessment.

“Only for You Lord, will I dare live a wild and abandoned love. Every other love must be assessed and judged by the courts of heaven; for I will not succumb to any unreasonable emotional love that could lead me away from my Primary Love. Amen.”
