SIGNIFICANCE OF CHILD NAMING

September 12, 2017

Genesis 35:18 (NKJV).

“And so it was, as her soul was departing (for she died), that she called his name Ben-Oni; but his father called him Benjamin.”

What you call your children matter. As Rachel labored to give birth and her soul was departing from her, she gave her newborn child a descriptive name (son of my sorrow or son that brings pain), but this was a negative prophetic name. Jacob, however, changed that name to a positive prophetic name calling him – Benjamin, Son of the Right Hand. Because the right hand symbolizes strength, Jacob had prophetically called him, “the son that brings me strength.”

Don’t call your children names that will negatively form and shape their destinies. Any name that draws a negative connotation could define the child’s life journey. In naming children, prayerfully consider what you sense his future destiny ought to be and give him a corresponding name.

Child naming should not just be a tradition. Child naming should be a prophetic action over the future destiny of a child.

“All my children bear Your name Lord. May each one of them live out the fullness of their prophetic destinies in Christ. This is my heart’s desire, in Jesus’ name. Amen.”
