Genesis 35:29 (NKJV).
“So Isaac breathed his last and died, and was gathered to his people, being old and full of days. And his sons Esau and Jacob buried him.’
Honor your parents by being present to bury them. We know that the soul of the person does not reside in the body of the deceased, yet as a sign of respect to your parents, it is important to do all you can to be present when a parent dies.
Don’t be like those who dishonor the memory of their parents by not caring what happens to them after they have departed. This is not spirituality. Esau and Jacob returned from wherever they had journeyed and came to bury their father. This counts. Unity around the burial site is also a sign of God’s blessings on a family; unlike some families that fight and hate each other even at the sight of their father’s burial.
Do all you can to ensure there’s peace among your siblings and children before death arrives so that there can be unity and harmony even on the day of your burial.
“It is my prayer Lord, that You will grant me the privilege of burying my mother since my father is gone already. It is also my prayer that I will not bury any of my children, but that they will all gather as one family, at the place of my burial. Do this for me, Lord, in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”
