Genesis 36:6-7 (NKJV).
“Then Esau took his wives, his sons, his daughters, and all the persons of his household, his cattle and all his animals, and all his goods which he had gained in the land of Canaan, and went to a country away from the presence of his brother Jacob. For their possessions were too great for them to dwell together…’
Herein is wisdom: know when to depart. Esau could see that a conflict was looming as his possessions and that of his brother were growing real quick and the land would soon not contain both parties. So he chose to depart in order to forestall a conflict with his brother. Esau may not have received the blessing of the Abrahamic Covenant, but he was a man wise in management and enterprise.
May we so learn to be. Sometimes, it is critical for us to know when to move away from a situation so that there will not be conflict. It takes discernment to foresee a danger before it happens and to take preventive measures before a crisis occurs. Leaders see ahead. Leaders discern. Leaders are sensitive and act quickly to prevent a meltdown or shutdown. Don’t wait to react to a situation that has gone wrong. Seek divine wisdom to prevent chaos before it happens.
“Father, grant me such insight to see what others don’t see and to act before the rains fall. Too much is being dissipated in solving relationship problems; problems that could have been averted or avoided. Lord, help me see ahead and learn early to separate myself before things go wrong. In Jesus’ name. Amen.”
