Genesis 36:12 (NKJV).
“Now Timna was the concubine of Eliphaz, Esau’s son, and she bore Amalek to Eliphaz. These were the sons of Adah, Esau’s wife.”
Just when you think it couldn’t get worse, it does. Although Esau was cut off from his ancestral blessing, he made no attempt to redress it by seeking to relink his children with the ways of his father’s. Rather his firstborn son Eliphaz went ahead and took a daughter of Lotan, of the children of Seir (the land where they dwelt) and bore to his Amalek (who may be the father of the Amalekites – great enemies of Israel).
So it wasn’t bad enough that Esau created the Edomites, a castaway clan of Abraham’s race; his offspring went further into the forbidden fusion with the heathen to produce a worse race than Edom. Didn’t Esau teach Eliphaz anything about the dangers and costliness of such pagan marriages?
“Oh, that our children may learn from our mistakes and choose a different path for their destiny; rather than repeat or perpetuate the errors of their fathers. May my children never fall into or repeat the foolish mistakes of my past. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.”
