Genesis 37:5 (NKJV).
“Now Joseph had a dream, and he told it to his brothers; and they hated him even more.”
Joseph was too naive. Was it innocence that made him share those dreams with his brothers, knowing they already despised him because their dad loved him more? How can you tell your elder brothers that you had a dream clearly indicating that you would rule over them? That’s so uncalled for and so unwise.
We must know what to share with whom and where and how. Not all facts and all truths must be shared with everyone at all times. There is a time to speak and a time to be silent. There is a time to disclose information and a time to hide information. Life is not simplistic, and great wisdom is needed to know what and where to divulge information. Discernment is needed to know even who to trust with some types of information.
Joseph’s dream was legitimate, but it was for his consumption and not for his brothers. May we learn from Joseph’s error.
“Lord, control my tongue and teach me what not to say and how not to say some things. Amen.”
