ESSENTIAL TWINS

October 24, 2017

Genesis 41:51-52 (NKJV)

“Joseph called the name of the firstborn Manasseh: ‘For God has made me forget all my toil and all my father’s house.’ And the name of the second he called Ephraim: ‘For God has caused me to be fruitful in the land of my affliction.’”

Here are two twin prayers we need to make: Manasseh and Ephraim. Manasseh. We need to pray that God helps us forget certain toils and pains and sorrows from the past. Living in the pains of the past will rob you of the joys of the present. We cannot progress once we keep looking at the past. Ephraim. We need to pray for God to make us fruitful in the land of affliction. We may still be in a strange and painful environment, but even in that, God can make us productive and prosperous.

Joseph gave his sons these names as a constant reminder of the goodness of God to him. He had been through the pains of rejection, treachery, false accusation, abandonment, imprisonment, dashed hopes – and yet God brought him through it all into the place of fruitfulness.

We need to maintain this attitude of thanksgiving for what God has done in the past, as well as to keep praying that Manasseh and Ephraim shall be our portion.

“Lord, may Manasseh and Ephraim be my portion. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.”
