Genesis 46:2 (NKJV)
“Then God spoke to Israel in the visions of the night, and said, Jacob, Jacob!’ And he said, ‘Here I am.’”
There’s nothing like God coming to you personally and directly and calling you by your name. One personal experience of God and with God, far outweighs one thousand messages from second party messengers. That God knows me is not a surprise; but that He would condescend to call my name and speak directly to me, is my greatest honor.
As Jacob set out on this strange journey to meet a son who was supposed to be dead, he started by offering sacrifices to God. And God accepted and acknowledged his sacrifice by coming to him with a night time vision. God doesn’t just appear. He always manifests Himself for a reason. He appears with a message.
“Lord, teach me to prepare myself by offering the sweet-smelling sacrifice that will entice and attract Your heart to me. Teach me to kneel and lift up my life as a sacrifice salted by Christ, that You may after that come to me with Your visible presence, calling me by name and bringing me a message that’s unique to me. I ask this, in Jesus’ name. Amen.”
