Genesis 49:6-7 (NKJV)
“…For in their anger they slew a man, And in their self-will, they hamstrung an ox. Cursed be their anger, for it is fierce; And their wrath, for it is cruel!…”
Fierce anger is a dangerous thing. Anger will cause you to destroy everything provoking you and sometimes, even destroy the very ones you love. There is a difference between slow anger and fierce anger, and the latter is very devastating. With intense anger, it is uncontrollable and is never satisfied until it expresses itself fully. Unfortunately, the expression of this anger can be very cruel and vengeful.
Simeon and Levi were such a lot, and they were therefore not praised for this. In their anger, they killed many people and even hamstrung an ox!! For this, their lot from God was, “I will divide them in Jacob and scatter them in Israel.” Unfortunate.
May we be slow to anger and quick to forgive. The wise never dwell on their anger and never allow it a free expression. Only the fool feels justified in expressing their anger at will, without any recourse to caution or restraint.
“My God, I refuse to be a fool. Teach me the disciplines of self-control, which comes from Your Spirit. I will not let anger have a free sway and take control in my life. I will put it under the control of God and only express it at God’s command. I ask for the grace to so do, in Jesus’ name. Amen.”
