Matthew 3:1 (NKJV)
“In those days John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Judea,”
John the Baptist had not always been preaching, but a time came that something erupted within him and moved him to start his preaching ministry. He knew by the Spirit that he was called to preach and he preached. But he didn’t have to organize the preaching by setting up programs, handbills, public address systems and all that. He just started preaching. And what was his target? The wilderness. He went to the desert, the dry wasted wilderness and there he preached the message of God. And because God was with him, even in the wilderness, people began to respond. The people of the wilderness responded to the message to the wilderness.
We likewise need to preach the message to our wilderness. Don’t wait for an organized system to help you preach. Just preach. Just start. Let the inner fountains of compassion within us break as we behold the wilderness people, needing the fresh waters of God. We cannot afford to be silent at a time like this. And may we not be like some who can only preach in the world of comfortable living. May we be like John, taking the message to the neediest peoples, irrespective of where they are located.
“Lord, help us preach Your word, in season and out of season. This world is full of wilderness people and if we have indeed found Your life, Lord, fill our hearts with the unction to go and tell others about You. This I pray, in Jesus name.”
