WHEN HE STRIKES

January 26, 2018

Matthew 4:2-3 (NKJV)

“And when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterward He was hungry. Now when the tempter came to Him, he said, ‘If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.’”

The place of greatest vulnerability is after you’ve reached a new spiritual climax or breakthrough, and Satan knows this and waits for us there. Note that all through the forty days fasting, Satan did not bother Jesus. The temptation came just as Jesus had reached the peak of His program and was ready to end His the days of fasting. It was at this climax, when Satan might have thought Jesus to be unprepared, that Satan struck.

Be most vigilant at your times of victory and spiritual climax. Just after a great season with the Lord, that’s when we are usually most vulnerable. And his requests are not usually unreasonable, but they actually would make sense and logic in those days. In the days when you have reached a mountaintop experience, and you are celebrating God’s goodness, be doubly wide-eyed, be slow to speak, be slow to make a decision that’s not in line with what you’ve done before. Test every voice and every new suggestion. Carelessness at such times will lead to a spiritual deflation and anti-climax.

“Like Jesus, may I not yield to the hunger that comes to me at the point of spiritual climax. O Lord, give me the fullness of Jesus that will enable me to act and think and respond as He did. Take away from me, the tendency to rejoice and be careless at my times of spiritual climax. Never let my vigilance drop, in Jesus name. Amen.”
