NEEDING MORE!

Matthew 5:1-2 (NKJV)

“And seeing the multitudes, He went up on a mountain, and when He was seated His disciples came to Him. Then He opened His mouth and taught them,…”

The disciples always wanted more. The crowds of the multitudes always needed Jesus to touch them and bless them in some way, but the disciples wanted more. The multitudes celebrated when Jesus met their needs. They cheered and worshipped for that reason, but the disciples wanted more. One of the hallmarks of a true disciple is that he wants more than the blessings and the superficial. True, he, like everyone else, has legitimate physical, emotional and psychological needs; but what makes him different and sets him apart is that he is not a need-driven being. He wants more.

When Jesus went up to the mountain, the disciples went up to meet Him; not for miracles or blessings, but to be taught. And He indeed taught them the secrets and principles of the Kingdom. Seek Jesus earnestly for who He is and what He can deposit in you for eternity. Don’t join the crowd of ministers who only seek the crowd of superficial and needy followers. Yes, Jesus loves even the superficial and will indeed meet their needs; but you must go beyond that. Go beyond the crowd. Be a true disciple who seeks the secrets of the Kingdom. That’s what I want. I want more. I need to understand Him. I need to know how He thinks and sees and why He does what He does. I want more. Do you?

“Lord, I want more. I don’t despise my other essential needs, and I need You to meet those basic needs. But I want more. I want You. I need to hear You and see You and understand You. I cannot live by the higher principles of the Kingdom if I don’t go beyond the crowd. I need You to whisper and instruct me by the heavenly oracles. And make me rise to meet You in the mountains where every disciple must come to encounter You. I want more Lord. I want more.”
