CONDITION TO BEHOLD GOD

February 11, 2018

Matthew 5:8 (NKJV)

“Blessed are the pure in heart, For they shall see God.”

God is so pure and He cannot behold any form of impurity. His eyes are too holy to confront evil and His justice so complete that it destroys evil. How can Man with all His failure ever get to behold God, if not for God’s mercy? God knows we can never acquire that level of personal righteousness that is sufficient to see Him, so He made the atonement possible by which we are made clean enough to behold Him. The blood of the Lamb of God atones for us and prepares us for the encounter with God.

Now that we are cleansed, we must continue in the atonement and continue to walk by God’s Spirit in the way of atonement. Purity is not a series of activities. Purity is primarily a state of mind; an attitude of life, an inclination of the heart. The work of Jesus is not meant to change external behavior, but it’s supposed to purify and transform our inward eyes and deep attitudinal dispositions. Only those whose hearts have been cleansed and purified (and continue to be cleansed and purified), can experience God in any level of intimacy. Beholding God starts here on earth, and we shall see Him as we maintain and walk in the atoning work of Christ.

“Lord, I am pure because of the work of Jesus on the cross. I am pure because of Your atoning work and continual sanctifying work on me. I shall behold You because it’s Your desire that I behold You. Yet Lord, I know I must continually respond to You and grow in my heart purity and personal holiness. I know I have not fully beheld You as I ought to in this flesh. Cause my heart to be more responsive to Your Spirit that I may thereby grow in heart purity and personal holiness. In Jesus name, I pray. Amen.”
