YE MUST JUDGE!

Matthew 7:1 – 3

“Judge not, that you be not judged. For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you.  And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye?”

People have often misunderstood and misused the verse in Matthew 7:1, “Judge not that you be not judged.” It is under a wrong textual interpretation that some people have refrained from bringing godly correction to brethren who needed admonishing, while other mischievous brethren have used this pretext to escape spiritual and godly scrutiny. Jesus’ concern was not that we should not correct one another or “judge” one another, but His concern was on the person doing the judging. As the issue of the woman caught in adultery, Jesus’ challenge to those who dared to judge her was for them to first judge themselves before trying to judge someone else.

We are called to judge one another. In fact, we are told that we shall judge angels. The real issue before us is: “If we still live in sin and disobedience, how can we judge those who live in the same?” It is immorally and judicially wrong to expect a criminal to judge another criminal. If we concentrate on living out the judicial atonement we’ve received through the blood of Christ; then we will have the authority to rebuke and correct another who is not living according to God’s ways. Simply saying that “no one is perfect” and thereby condoning a low level of spiritual living, eliminates you from performing the holy duty of bringing judgment upon the evil in our generation. We are called to judge sin and pronounce judgment on the evil actions in the lives of men. Light must judge darkness. Light radiates and repels. Live a high level of spiritual life, and the content of your life will naturally judge evil around you. For those who walk with Christ, even the specks in their eyes will be treated as logs. No excuses allowed even for minutest of nuances. Deal with yourselves and then get out there and deal with others.

“Lord, I will not shirk my duty and responsibility to judge evil and darkness in my world. I will not hide away my light and allow darkness to go unchallenged, within and outside the Church. I simply ask Lord, that You fuel my growth in living in the light and that I refuse to excuse the specks in my eyes, knowing that only when I’ve dealt with my specks can I judge the specks in the lives of others. In Jesus name. Amen.”
