THE OPPRESSIVE SILENCE

April 17, 2018

Matthew 9:32-33

“As they went out, behold, they brought to Him a man, mute and demon-possessed. And when the demon was cast out, the mute spoke…”

There is a silence that is a spiritual discipline. This discipline is voluntary and self-determined, but there is another type of silence that is oppressive, satanic and involuntary. This type of silence is not of God. God’s will is that we communicate with each other. God’s will is that we are an expressive community. God’s will is that we don’t bottle in, but we pour out. God’s will is not to make us mute! For this reason, when something or someone is oppressing you and forcing you to be quiet, this is of the devil. It could be a past experience or current limitation of fear, but whatever suppresses you and restricts you from legitimately expressing what God has put inside you, is of the devil.

When Jesus saw the mute man, He cast out the demon, and the muteness was gone. We must reject, refuse and rebuke that oppression from within us that seeks to make us mute. We need to reject those inner fears and internal limitations that continually pressures us to be silent even when God expects us to speak. Unless we rebuke this demonic control, we will never be able to talk with confidence, even the words that God wants us to share with our generation. Satan’s promotes evil by ensuring that righteous men remain mute. It’s time to break out and break free. It’s time to speak our hearts and speak the very words of God. It’s time to rebuke that controlling evil spirit that’s kept us limited in the prison of fearful silence.

“Father, I was reborn to speak Your words of life, and I will not let anything or anyone restrict that free flow of Your words through me. Keep my tongue loose to speak when You want me to speak and may I be silent only when You expect that of me through the intentional discipline of silence. This I pray in Jesus name. Amen.”
