Matthew 9:35
“Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.”
This verse summarizes Jesus’ ministry, and it showcases four vital components for us to emulate in our ministries today. The first is that Jesus was mobile. Jesus touched both cities and villages. He did not simply expect people to come to Him. He went to people. Secondly, Jesus was a teacher. Jesus went deep into expounding the mysteries of God. Jesus did not just present the Word superficially. He gave men deep foundations of truth. Thirdly, Jesus cast His seeds wide through preaching. He scattered His seed of the Word to all and sundry, but His preaching was not sectional or denominational. His preaching was focused on the Kingdom. And finally, Jesus touched people’s real needs. He brought tangible healing and solutions to people’s problems.
We may not be able to imbibe all of these in our persons as individuals, but we need to be part of groups that manifest different aspects of the four components. Every church and ministry needs to ensure that all four are reflected in their mandate. Be mobile, targeting the rich and poor in cities and villages. Give believers deep clean waters to drink through in-depth expositions of the Word. Scatter your seed wide, but don’t focus on promoting your church. And touch real felt needs. May I play my part in my group to ensure we cover all four components. Amen.
“Lord Jesus, I want to be like You in every sense, and I ask that You use me in each of these vital components. I also pray that Your Church will display You by manifesting all four components. This I ask in Your name. Amen.”
