Matthew 10:8
“Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.”
It’s a shame that some unscrupulous elements in the Church have turned ministry into a moneymaking machine. We hear of prices being given to people before they can be prayed for or ministered to. This is extremely sad indeed because this is not the Jesus way. This may work for a season, but there will be a day of reckoning. There will be a day when God will demand an explanation for making people pay for the free gift of God’s grace. For many, they have not charged a fee openly, but they have indirectly insinuated that certain payments are required for ministry to be brought to them. This is very sad indeed. This is ungodly.
We must learn to serve one another freely. We have benefited so much from God’s free gifts of grace, and we must extend this to one another. Whether in small or significant services, we must see all of our services as ministries of grace. There are, of course, cost related services rendered that we need to pay for, but these are not the services of grace referred to here. Jesus said, ”heal the sick, cleanse lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons,” all free of charge because these are direct ministries of God’s grace. Similarly, we must look for ways in which the grace of God can flow through us to bless people around you, and we need to do this at no charge to the recipient. The secret of receiving fresh grace from God is by being a free channel of His grace to others.
“I hear You, Lord. I must never turn ministry into an opportunity for generating wealth. Even in the most subtle ways, please guard my heart against this temptation. May I always consider it a privilege to serve others freely, even from the storehouse of Your grace which You’ve freely bestowed on me. Amen.”
