Matthew 10:9-10
“Provide neither gold nor silver nor copper in your money belts, nor bag for your journey, nor two tunics…for a worker is worthy of his food.”
Following and serving Jesus must be rooted in total faith. It takes faith to believe that Jesus means what He says and He can do us good all the time. For this reason, we need not fear that Jesus will be unable to take care of us. He is God, and He is able to make good on His promises. As we serve Him, let’s believe in His words, ”a worker is worthy of his food.” Yes indeed, a worker is worthy of his food and clothing and housing and basic needs.
Now Jesus did not promise us mansions here on earth, and neither did He promise we would wear expensive jewelry or drive the latest cars. Some of the golds and silvers and mansions have been reserved for the life beyond this fleshly tabernacle. However, Jesus said that His workers are worthy of their food (or, their basic needs). Jesus requires that we be faithful to Him and faithful to represent Him here on earth. And in response, Jesus will meet our basic needs. This is a fact, and we must have faith to believe it. Even if we don’t have money belts (or savings accounts), we have to trust His faithfulness. Are we serving God faithfully in whatever situation or profession we find ourselves? If yes, then believe Jesus’ words. He will take care of your basic needs. Amen.
“Amen, Lord. Amen. I believe this completely, yet sometimes I doubt again. When I see the bills not yet paid or the deadlines drawing near, I tend to forget Your promises. Help my unbelief, Lord, and give me newfound faith to trust that, as I serve You faithfully, You will surely make a way for me. I ask this, in Jesus name.”
