RESOURCING GOD’S WORK

Matthew 10:11

“Now whatever city or town you enter, inquire who in it is worthy, and stay there till you go out.”

It seems as though when God said a worker is worthy of his food, He had actually gone ahead to prepare what the workers needed. Jesus ran a simple economy. He didn’t own much nor had He any great savings to run the ministry. Every resource He required, however, was provided. How did He accomplish this? I believe it was through local resourcing. I believe Jesus knew that the Father had deposited resources for Him at each location, and all He needed to do was locate the resource bearers. Strange as it may sound, God even provided the money to pay for Jesus’ tax through a fish! Amazing. Talk of local resourcing!! God has all the resources already provided for His work. We merely need creativity and discernment to fish them out.

That’s why He told the disciples to “inquire” who is worthy of hosting them, whenever they entered a new place. God had sent worthy men ahead to the places He was sending His disciples. God plans that the resources they need should be provided from local resource persons. We need to see this as God’s strategy for resource mobilization. God’s pattern is two-fold: first, the disciples need to inquire diligently to discover God’s prepared vessels for resourcing their ministries. The second is that the prepared vessels themselves need to discern their task and God’s mandate in providing for the disciples. Are you fulfilling your role dutifully or is the resourcing of God’s work suffering because of your failure on duty?

“Lord, help me to play my role in resourcing Your work diligently. There is so much need in the ministry because some people have abandoned their roles. Lord, help me dutifully play my role so that what is needed will be provided, and the purpose of God will be fulfilled. In Jesus name, I pray. Amen.”
