PLEASANTNESS

April 27, 2018

Matthew 10:12-13

“And when you go into a household, greet it. If the household is worthy, let your peace come upon it. But if it is not worthy, let your peace return to you.”

Always be pleasant when you meet people, especially for the first time. Don’t pre-judge them and don’t be nasty for any reason. You don’t know who they are until you’ve had a chance to interact with them. Be known for being peaceful and approachable. Take the initiative in relationship building, whether with the worthy or the unworthy. Reach out pleasantly and appealingly.

Jesus said, ”when you go into a household.” Jesus expects us to enter into homes and deal with people in their homes. Deep interaction must go beyond the superficial. The way to know a worthy man is to go beyond the external, to the home level. And be prepared to meet not only the good folks but also the unworthy ones. If you meet someone unworthy of the peace you bring, no need to quarrel; simply ”let your peace return to you.” Be pleasant at all times, irrespective of whom you meet.

“Father, help me engage with people at the home level. And teach me how to be pleasant at all times, even to the worthy and the unworthy. Irrespective of who I meet, may I be known as a man who brings peace and pleasantness. In Jesus name. Amen.”
