Matthew 11:28-29
“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”
Oh! How we need Jesus. The burdens of this life are so overwhelming that we cannot have peace or rest without Jesus. I desperately need Jesus. I need Jesus not just to relieve my burdens, but to teach me how to be like Him. Jesus calls me to learn of Him, and that is why I need to stay close to Him, for peace and rest will not come from just praying to Jesus but from learning the Jesus lifestyle.
I must carry the yoke of Christ, and as I so do, I will learn to walk with Him. Peace comes from bearing the mark of Jesus which is gentleness and humility. Irrespective of how I feel or the fire of passion that burns in my bones, I cannot cast away the yoke of Christ or His garment of humility and lowliness. Rest comes when Self has been dethroned, and I learn to daily walk in His steps and not in pursuit of my personal gains and glory. The yoke of Christ keeps me in step with Jesus, and this is my greatest need because, without that yoke, I cannot find peace from the tyranny of Self. I need to stay yoked. I need the yoke of Christ.
“Jesus, I need Your yoke. I have labored and pursued my agendas and ended up in restless agony and breathlessness. I need Your yoke, Jesus, so that I may freely walk in Your humility. I need the yoke that crucifies and chains me. Oh, Jesus, I need Your yoke on my neck. Amen.”
