THE GENTLE SERVANT

Matthew 12:18,20

“Behold! My Servant whom I have chosen, My Beloved in whom My soul is well pleased! I will put My Spirit upon Him…A bruised reed He will not break, And smoking flax He will not quench…”

Who is he that the soul of the Lord is pleased with and on whom the Lord is pleased to place His Spirit on him? It is the man of God who has learned to be gentle with all types and manners of people. We cannot always have the exact kind of persons we desire for our teams and in our families. There will be different shades of people with different personalities, and these may be a real test to you.

More importantly however, the servant of the Lord must know how to work with the bruised and those who are about to give up; without breaking them or quenching their spirits. People carry all types of baggage and this baggage can be a major limitation on what they do or cannot do. The servant of God may be tough, but he must also be wise in handling the weak and the struggling. Don’t break the weak. Be gentle with the vulnerable at all times; and when you need to be tough, be tough in a gentle way. The skill and ability to do this can only come from God; that’s why God’s Spirit must rest on us. We need God’s help to help those who need God.

“O Lord, I need You so that You can help me help those who need You. I am weak and need help if I am ever going to help the weak around me. Jesus, flood me with Your Spirit, so I operate as You would, in dealing with the weak around me. Amen.”
