Matthew 12:39

“But He answered and said to them, ‘An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and no sign will be given to it…’”

Jesus performed so many miracles and so many signs to authenticate His ministry and His calling, but people were not satisfied. They still needed more and more signs; and that in itself was the sign that they were evil. Jesus had done so much, but the sign-seeking generation could not believe without seeing more and more signs. This was evil and wickedness, and it is still evil and wickedness today.

Don’t join the sign-seeking generation because Jesus brands them as evil today even as He branded them as evil in His days. There’s nothing wrong with seeking God to help us and to do a miracle for us, but there is something wrong in continually trying to evaluate Jesus based on signs. It is evil to want to see a sign before you can believe in the truthfulness and integrity of the person of Jesus. It is this type of sign-seeking that has thrown up all kinds of magicians and sorcerers in the Church, who know that the crowds will believe and follow once they can show signs. Jesus is mightier and greater than all these false prophets because He is the eternal son of God. Don’t join the sign-seeking generation. Love, believe and follow Jesus for who He is and be satisfied in Him, even if you never saw any signs from Him. That’s true faith.

“Father, I’ve gone past this stage. I have believed Jesus and I will die believing Jesus, without any need for Jesus to show me any signs. The sign of redemption is already more than enough and I am satisfied. Thank You, Father, for sending us, Jesus. Amen.”
