Matthew 13:7
“And some fell among thorns, and the thorns sprang up and choked them.”
The thorns of worldliness and earthly lusts are some of the greatest seductions that woo the heart away from walking intensely with Christ. The problem with these lusts and inordinate desires is that under the guise of modern spirituality, they have come to find legitimacy in the Church. So, the pursuit of wealth and earthly possessions, positions and power, and fleshly desires are no longer frowned at but accepted as a part of the legitimate pursuits of success. The only problem is that these desires, once they begin to consume your heart, they choke out the efficacy of the Word of God.
It’s important to note that while the birds and the sun analogies came from outside, the thorns are right in the same soils and the good seed. Because the thorns are growing right together with the good seeds, the choking is gradual and progressive, and more challenging to deal with. But they can be dealt with. We must become thorns to the thorns. We must choke them out by the fiery passions of prayer and outright rebellion to its voices. We must choke out the thorns by visibly and vehemently standing in opposition to the desires for these empty vanities. We must choke out the thorns by teaching against it and labeling it for what it is, and that is inordinate lusts that correct the good seed. The only way to survive the choking effect of thorns is to go on the offensive and choke them out yourself.
“In the name of Jesus, I choke out every choking thorn in or around me by the power of His divine name. I will not sit still while evil influences choke out the grace of God in my life. I go on the offensive and choke you out of my system, in Jesus name. Amen.”
