Matthew 13:25-26
“but while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat and went his way. But when the grain had sprouted and produced a crop, then the tares also appeared.”
I am called to be spiritually vigilant 24/7. There’s no room or space for sleeping or slacking in any aspect. The fact that I am doing well today does not mean I should relax. The fact that there are no enemies visible does not mean they are not present. I must live with the understanding that there is a constant reality of evil, always present and always looking for an opportune time to sow evil seeds along with my good seeds. It’s interesting to note that I am not the one planting the bad seeds, yet the bad seeds will begin to spring up and compete with my good seeds if I let them in.
There is no alternative to watchfulness in every sector and aspect of my life. In my relationships, ministry, personal devotional, family, team life, finances or leisure time; the enemy is lurking and waiting and biding his time to observe when I will sleep so that he can quickly interfere. It may seem tiresome always to be vigilant, and yet in this evil dispensation, a little sleep can lead to an overwhelming loss. Don’t accept the carelessness of sleep to steal from you. Be alert all the time, and you will surely guard the good seeds God has committed to you, and you will experience an abundant harvest.
“God, I am committed under grace to ensure that the crops I am supposed to oversee come out without tares. So, Father, this is my earnest request, that You keep me always vigilant and alert so that the enemy does not take advantage of me. Amen.”
