OUR ROLES

Matthew 14:18

“He said, ‘Bring them here to Me.’ ”

The disciples were not wrong when they identified the bankruptcy of their situation. In fact, their analysis was excellent and correct. It was because of the accurate analysis that they wanted Jesus to send the people away. However, they failed to understand what their roles were as disciples of Jesus. Jesus never expected them to feed the multitudes without Him. Even Jesus knew they couldn’t do it. However, what He expected them to understand and to do was to bring the people to Jesus, because they should have known that solutions and miracles do not come from men but from Jesus.

Our roles are not to solve people’s problems by ourselves. Our roles are to introduce men to Jesus and then let Jesus do the miracle. It’s an entirely faulty reasoning and broken foundation of life to even contemplate being a solution to any man’s problem. What is Man to provide a lasting solution for another man? The answer lies with Jesus, and for those who understand this principle, it manifests in the reality and practice of their lives. Our greatest joy and hope to positively impact humanity is in understanding our role. Jesus is asking us to bring men to Him. Let’s stick to that role. Let’s step aside and watch Jesus do what only He can do.

“O Lord, help me to always limit myself by understanding my role. Help me to learn to step aside and give You room Jesus, so that You can do what only You can do. And free me from any sense of self-ability that could rob me of the dependency on You. I ask this in Your name. Amen.”
